TEACHERS strive to:
Teach in the most natural and enjoyable way.
Present technical information accurately and progressively.
Research a vast array of material appropriate for each level, interest and genre.
Suggest and/or provide books deemed most necessary for the child/class.
Offer a gradual and progressive continuity through a series of books and materials.
Encourage and expand the intellectual range of the pupil.
Nurture a student’s creativity and intuitiveness.
Lead with assistance to the eventual mastery of the instrument.
PARENTS try to:
Set definite practice times each day (student can keep a practice log if needed).
Go to piano/instrument with your child and listen to them play! Perhaps sing along!
Make sure your child practices as soon after every lesson as possible (when the corrections and suggestions of teacher are fresh in mind).
Encourage proper posture when seated and therefore relaxation at the instrument.
Provide proper lighting when reading/writing music (ask about piano/orchestra lamps).
Check their progress when doing written homework assignments.
Help teacher achieve consistency with your child by keeping up with weekly lessons.
Show interest and help the child develop a happy attitude toward piano study.
